Halton sees rapidly growing wait-list for affordable units amid housing crisis

With 1-bedroom apartments averaging over $1,900, many residents struggle to afford housing. The HATCH wait list has grown by 52% since 2021, with over 7,100 names. Shelters are over capacity, and unsheltered homelessness has risen by 185% since 2018. The plan seeks to create 1,350 new affordable housing units over the next decade, contingent on additional funding from provincial and federal governments.
